Consumers urged to be smart this Christmas

Consumers have been urged by the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to be sensible with their spending this Christmas.

The body has released a series of tips for people in the UK to help them avoid unmanageable debts in the aftermath of the festive period.

Individuals are told to be sure of their priorities at Christmas and remember in particular to ensure they can pay everyday living costs, including energy bills and mortgages.

In addition, people have been urged not to run heavily into their overdrafts and shop around for the best deals on services and presents.

CAB's director of policy, Teresa Perchard, said: "It is very easy to get carried away at Christmas and spend on the spur of the moment, especially if people leave it until the last minute.

"We hope that these top tips will help people take control of their money as Christmas approaches so they do not start the New Year with a debt hangover."

A recent report by Callcredit also called for customers to be particularly reponsible when spending money on their credit cards this Christmas.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18379884-ADNFCR
